Private Art Lessons

Come make something.

Private, one-on-one art lessons in my East Sacramento home studio for kids, teens, and adults.

Whether you want to learn a particular technique, build your creative skills, work through one of my prepared projects, or simply make time for art in your life, these sessions are designed around you.

No art experience is necessary. Curiosity is enough.

What would you like to make?

I work across a wide range of art and craft practices, so private lessons can take many different directions.

Drawing + Illustration

Learn foundational drawing skills or explore drawing simply as a way of seeing, experimenting, and developing your own visual language.

Lessons might include:

Drawing fundamentals • Blind contour drawing • Observational drawing • Comics and visual storytelling • Sketchbook practices • Creative drawing exercises

Paper + Print

Explore approachable techniques for turning drawings, ideas, collected materials, and everyday imagery into finished pieces.

Zines • Junk journaling • Rubber stamp carving + printing • Bullet journaling techniques • Collage and mixed media

Painting + Experimental Techniques

Learn traditional techniques or experiment with materials, texture, color, and unexpected combinations.

Wax resist • Oil pastel resist • Watercolor techniques • Texture • Color exploration • Mixed-media projects

Fiber + Textile Arts

Learn handcraft and sewing techniques one-on-one and at your own pace.

Crochet basics • Granny squares • Crochet coral reef techniques • Sewing machine basics • Introduction to quilting

And plenty of other creative experiments along the way.

Choose Your Own Adventure

There are two ways we can approach a private lesson.

Choose a prepared project.
I have a growing collection of projects and lessons ready to go. Some are inspired by artists and art movements; others explore a particular material or technique. This is a great option if you want to arrive, sit down, and start making.

Learn a skill or bring an idea.
Want to finally understand crochet? Learn to use a sewing machine? Get more comfortable drawing? Make your first zine? Bring something you're already working on?

Tell me what interests you, and we'll shape the lesson around it.

You don't need to know exactly what you want before you come. I'm happy to help you choose.

A Little About Me

I’m Jessica Stapp, an artist, maker, and art educator based here in East Sacramento.

I formerly served as the Art Coordinator and a volunteer art teacher at Theodore Judah Elementary, and I continue to teach creative workshops around Sacramento. I also host informal adult art meetups at local cafés because I believe making art is better when it feels welcoming, social, curious, and accessible.

I love teaching people who don't necessarily think of themselves as “artists.”

My approach isn't about making something perfect. It's about learning how materials work, developing skills, following your curiosity, and discovering the satisfaction of making something yourself.

The Studio

Lessons take place in my dedicated home art studio in East Sacramento (95819).

It's a comfortable space set aside specifically for making things, with room to spread out, experiment, and get a little messy.

The studio has its own bathroom and a small kitchenette, and there is always coffee and tea available.

Think less “classroom” and more an hour in a neighborhood artist's studio.

For younger artists

Children and teens are very welcome. All students under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult for the duration of the lesson.

Adults are welcome to relax in the studio during the session—coffee or tea included.

Private Lesson Pricing

One Private Lesson

$45 / 60 minutes

Perfect for trying something new, getting help with a particular technique, or spending an hour on a creative project.

Four-Lesson Studio Pack

$160 / four 60-minute lessons

Come regularly, develop a skill over time, complete a larger project, or explore several different techniques.

Lessons are one-on-one and scheduled by appointment.

Basic studio materials are included whenever possible.

Some projects—particularly quilting, specialty fiber arts, printmaking, or projects requiring specific materials—may require you to bring your own supplies or purchase materials for an additional fee. I'll always let you know beforehand, so there are no surprises.

Who are private lessons for?

The kid who is always drawing.

The teenager who wants a creative space of their own.

The adult who hasn't made art since school.

The experienced maker who wants to learn a new technique.

The person who bought crochet supplies six months ago and still can't figure out what the pattern is asking them to do.

The person who says, “I'm not artistic, but…”

Especially that last person.

You don't need to already be good at art to come make art.

Ready to Make Something?

Tell me a little about yourself, who the lesson is for, and what you're interested in exploring. If you aren't sure what you'd like to make yet, that's completely fine.

We'll figure it out together.
